So, you’re thinking about designing a Letterman and you want to know where to get started? We’ve got you covered. In this article we’ll take a look into some of the most popular designs, and how you can create the best jacket possible.

The Minimalist

If you’re looking for a stylish jacket, but don’t really care too much about sport, or representing your school, a blank jacket offers a nice clean look.

The Hood

Traditionally the collar of a letterman extends about an inch or two up the neckline, however, if you’re looking to spice your look up a bit you can add a hood to your jacket. It will give you an edgy look and it’ll keep your ears warm.

The Hybrid

The 1930s change to wool was designed to make a more durable jacket. More recently the trend arose of mixing wool and leather. If you’re looking for a way to set yourself apart consider creating a hybrid look with a wool body and leather sleeves.

Of course, if you aren’t interested in creating a hybrid jacket you can either stick with the traditional wool or go full leather.

Alright let’s talk about decorations.

You can decorate your jacket with text or graphics that represent who you are, and what’s important to you. These decorations are typically found in the following locations: the sleeves, over either the right or left breast of the jacket, and on the back.

The original Lettermans (originating from the Harvard baseball team) simply had a red “H” stitched over the breast. Feel free to add more artwork, but keep in mind that sometimes less is more.
